June 22 Pueblo - Canon City 57miToday was a really spectacular ride no sooner had we left the big city we had mountain views like you have never seen before. The difference between pre Pueblo and what we saw today was like turning a page in a book. The snow capped mountains in the distance was amazing. It was worth the 2000+ miles of pain and troubles to experience the natural beauty of what we saw today. The road up to Wetmore was incredible it allowed views up to 20 miles across valleys in all directions and then the foothills of the mountains beyond that. We sat on a wall at the top of Wetmore and ate our lunch with Gene. The road from Wetmore through Florence into Canon City pronounced Canyon was just about down hill all the way, it was wonderful to maintain around 20 mph. The amount of wild flowers of different colours were so pretty to look at. Tonight we are staying at the Holy Cross Abbey which was a Benedictine Monastery now used as a guest & conference centre. It is the same order of monks that founded the Monastery at New Norscia in Western Australia, isn't that amazing!!! Again a nice comfy bed to sleep in. |
