Tour 2003

 Home Up

Jul 16 Lucile - New Meadows 65mi

We planned on getting into Council today that's would have been about 26mi more than we were able to do before the sun got too hot.

We stayed in a motel with air and had it turned up fully but the room was still warm, we were told that the temperature had reached 108'F today.

Again we followed a river today upstream, however because the hills are all running down to the riverside and the road is continuously turning around bends there is an optical illusion created and it leads you to believe you are cycling downhill, very strange.

We are still seeing lots of deer each morning but it is still a great sight. Trish on the back of the bike must be looking for lost coins or something because she is seeing snakes all the time. There is not a day go by that she does not see one including rattle snakes, she even took a photo of some of then.

As we pass the various mountain ranges the vegetation from one side of the range to the other is often very noticeably different. People are often growing vegetable gardens too but they have 6 foot fences around presumably to keep deer from eating the crop

A shop next to the laundry sold just about everything including guns and ammo. I asked the woman about licence requirements, she said they have to wait for a police clearance to purchase one takes about 3 days. What about security of the gun case, some one may steal them at night " oh, that's OK they are all locked up" We walked past the gun counter and she was threading a thin weak looking chain through each trigger guard "guess the boss must have forgot to lock them up again yesterday" she said.
