 Home Up

June 1 Carbondale (Layover)

It was so nice to wake up and not have to get on the bike, just to relax and take it easy was just heaven.

A couple of days ago one of the guys - Grant caught a ride into Carbondale. He had seen a doctor and had been advised to rest his leg, he had started the ride with a history of various veins in his leg, he now has a blood clot in the leg. He went along to the hospital this morning who advised him to stop the ride. So very reluctantly Grant has had to pull out of the ride. He looked very sad as he told us the decision he had been forced to make. We will miss him very much as he was a very good peoples person always looking at the positive in everything.

Tonight we went to Chinese all you can eat restaurant. It cost us $7 each and boy did we have a good feed. 11 hungry cyclists can eat an awful lot of food in a couple of hours.

Farewell Dinner with Grant

Trish and Shirley not to miss an opportunity walked around the shops, I went into Barnes and Noble book store,  I sat in there and read some magazines. One I picked up was a cycling magazine that gave advise on how to build up to a 100 mile ride, I smiled at that and thought maybe they should just sign up for this ride and take a wrong turn !
