Trish & Phill's Tandem TransAmerican

Tour 2003

 Home Up

Jun 11 Chanute - Eureka (76mi)

This was a hilly day even though it's Kansas. The afternoon got to be quite hot  about 90F I'd guess but also a high humidity.

We got to camp around 4.30pm, I say camp but actually it's a church. The kitchen was a campers dream with running water, gas cookers and all sorts. There was a swimming pool just down the street so we got out bathers and headed off there.

Unfortunately we sort of got side tracked because as we passed by the Pub a little voice called out to us and said "Come in" so we did. The beer was colder than the pool anyway we thought!

There are around 300 other cyclists in town. They are part of the "Bike Across Kansas" group. They are all cycling West to East. We chatted to a few of them in the pub and they invited us over to the High School were they were staying to tell them all about our trip.

Bike Across Kansas is a yearly event that has a large participation and all sorts of bikes can be seen. They even had a Cannondale Tandem the same as ours. A few of our group went to the high school including Trish and spoke to them about our ride. For their efforts they were given a torch and a Bike Across Kansas water bottle each.

The night had a lot of  lightning which amazes me it is a sky show most nights and in the morning it is a lovely day.
