Jun 12 Eureka - Newton 80 (mi)Today was a difficult ride. I had thought of Kansas as dead flat wrong!!!! Today we cycled almost continuously but gradually slowly up hill and into a headwind. We pasted thru Cassoday just in time for lunch. It was a small town nowhere near anywhere else but the place was full. It was obviously a very popular place to eat and that was confirmed by trying it out. Most of the customers where cowboy looking guys with boots, hats (both wide brim and baseball) jeans and even the odd neck-a-chief, I bet they had a good laugh at them there by-cyclists coming into town in all that tight lycra wear.
It was with some great surprise tonight that I heard Trish say how she liked getting into the tent at night, she is not a camping type person but I knew exactly what she meant. It is nice to get into the tent and zip it up at the end of the day, It's our own little space of privacy & comfort, you sort of shut out the weather, the pain and particularly the bike all in one zip. Something bite me on the leg - maybe a mosquito but it's right on the line of the elastic to my shorts so it's constantly itchy and turning a little septic. I will need to keep am eye on it. One of the guys Gene got bit by a spider doesn't know where or when but it looks nasty. |
