Jun 8 Ashgrove - Pittsburg (79mi)The first 20-30 miles consisted of much the same terrain as the last weeks big hills. We rode today with only the middle and top ring. We could not get the bottom one now and we had still some serious hills to climb but have a guess what? we did it and it seemed easier to me to get up on the middle ring instead of the so called Granny gear, so I guess we are getting stronger every day even though we don't feel like we are.
We have had dogs follow us barking and snapping, some responding to shouts and others taking no notice of our voices (high pitched voices at this time). This has been a daily occurrence for the whole trip to date. Today however we had a border collie chase us for about 4 miles but he was a friendly dog, he decided to turn back just before the Kansas border, they are such an intelligent dog one wonders wether he knew when to go home.!!!!!
On the way into Kansas Shirley heard something go on her bike, sure enough it was a spoke in her back wheel, it actually pulled the spoke out by the nipple end which then got twisted around her gear sprocket, not a good week for the group this week there would be a queue at the bike shop tomorrow morning. |
