 Home Up

Jun 6 Houston - Hartville 45mi            The Baby

Today is a great day we became Grand Parents for the 2nd time.  Julie and Shane are the proud parent of a healthy 7lb 9oz baby daughter at 7.10pm (Australian time) called Sophie May Gorman.  As you can see she is absolutely gorgeous.

It was really lucky we decided to stay in a hotel the night before just in case anything happened as Julie went into hospital on the morning of the 6th, any other time we may have been on the road in the sticks somewhere and would have been a few days before we found out, as it happened we found out 1/2hr after she was born and had a photograph a couple of hours later, modern technology is fantastic.

As far as the riding goes for this day very frustrating, we had another spoke go on us 2nd one is 2 days not good, the spokes on this new wheel we purchased in Wytheville is turning out to be a dud.

We had a perfectly sound 40 spoke wheel and changed it for a 32 spoke wheel. We did that so we could have effective breaking in the mountains with the aid of an additional disc break. A 40 spoke hub/wheel with a disk break is rear and certainly did not exist in the small town. The whole affair of changing the wheels over was very expensive too. These spokes keep breaking and it's causing us some real stress and disappointed to say the least.

Anyway back on the road again more big hills to climb just as well we have a short mileage as they takes twice as long to get up so arriving at camp around 6pm isn't so bad.

Time for celebrations!  buggared or not we went and purchase 2 bottles of champagne and toasted the birth of our granddaughter. By the way we camped on the courthouse lawn tonight so mums the word about the champagne, wouldn't want to get in trouble!!!! - public drinking is strictly not allowed.

The big toast
