Trish & Phill's Tandem TransAmerican

Tour 2003

 Home Up

Jul 19 Richland - Baker City 42mi

We were on the road at 5 am this morning.  Baker City is less than 50 miles away but we have a few hills and the weather forecast is 101F for today. What a sunset beautiful.

The countryside is basically dessert, not flat but very little covered vegetation.  We saw a couple of deer close to Richland and a couple of snakes and a huge mouse of sorts waiting in the middle of the road motionless waiting to commit suicide we thought.

There is a historic Centre all about the Oregon Trail that we would have found interesting but 2 miles off route and

over 100F we gave it a miss.

On entering Baker City there was all sorts going on we hadn't realized but it was there celebration of a Silver Jubilee, so we arrived on the right weekend, just in time for the parade which was really good , all sorts of marquee holding lots of goodies just waiting to be bought, all sorts of different foods, Car Museum which Phill loved.

We decided to book into a hotel and then go back and have a really good look around, we only last a couple of hours as the heat was unbearable and up since 4 AM, we were certainly winding down some what.
