Tour 2003

 Home Up

Jul 24  Prineville - Sisters  43 Miles

A day or two ago we had noticed a range of snow covered mountains in the far distance horizon. We have been getting slowly closer and closer. They are the Three Sisters part of the Cascade Mountain Range.

The Three Sisters known as North Middle and South Sister does not do these mountains any justice they are so pretty. They used to be know as Faith Hope and Charity but got changed many years ago to the present name. The small town of Sisters lies underneath them and was once a mining/logging support town. Both those industries have now basically gone but he town flourishes with tourism. We entered the town around lunch time and joined a traffic line to get thought town. That was unusual for us - we haven't had that for weeks and weeks now.

We are now on Hwy 126 - the road that will take us right into Florence - no need to keep watching the map just keep peddling on the same road and we can't miss it now.

Trish had to tell me to close my mouth, I was drooling over all the hot cars in town for the car show WOW there was some beautiful machines that had been lovingly restored. I admire these guys for doing that.

We deliberately did a short ride today so that we are not riding in the heat over the last major climb of the ride - 2000+ feet of McKenzie Pass. Trish had a nice afternoon wandering the shops in town looking at all the goodies for sale and I sat on the bench outside the shop and watched the cars go by in procession. We both had a good afternoon.
