Jun 29 Colorado/Wyoming Walden - Riverside 50miWe had a lie in this morning (7:00 AM). We had some final business with Adventure Cycling to complete. We walked up the road and had a nice cooked breakfast, by this time is was about 10:00 so we hung around and waited for the big event of the year in Walden - the street parade. Whilst waiting for the parade to start a local newspaper reporter interviewed Trish and said that our story would be very interesting in the local paper. It only gets printed weekly so don't think we will ever see what she had to say about us, shame ! The parade was OK and the kids enjoyed getting all the lollies thrown at them. A little blond girl about our grand daughter's age stood just in front of us and I knew without Trish saying a word "Gee I miss our Ailish". yep. We met up with some East bound riders as we rode out of town and as usual we stopped and compared notes on the size of the hills we had coming our way respectively. As we finished chatting the sky got darker, a thunder storm was approaching. We rode as hard as we could and managed to leave the rain behind (the wind also help take it away). We crossed the state line into Wyoming at around lunch time and eat some food under the sign , oddly it did not say welcome as most of the other state sign do, but I'm sure the good people of this State will make us very welcome.
Wyoming State Line The road was alive with little ground hogs popping up and down their holes. Not much road kill these days other than these "Critters" and the odd bird. They must be smarter over this side of the states. The soil is dry and clay looking now and because the vegetation is low scrub there are less animals in the paddocks. The one pest that is prominent is the mosquito. They are everywhere. They are able to bite though the lycra shorts I have on and get a feed off the check of me butt. I near jumped off the saddle when it got me it is still sore as I type this. The last part of the ride was into a strong headwind and the last 10 miles or so took us for ever to get done. The campsite is next to a clear running river. The town has a Pub "The Mangy Moose" so we had to have a beer there. We had no option but to get into our tent early to hide from the mosis that where covering us. A lady at the local shop wore a tee shirt that said "I gave blood at Riverside and it had a picture of a mosquito on it. "
